Registration deadline is March 21, 1998 -- Large groups (more than 8 students) must register by March 7th. Conference fee for 6th & 7th grade girls is $7 (includes lunch and T-shirt). Conference fee for adults is $10 (includes coffee break and light refreshments). See general information, below.

Expand Your Horizons by spending time with women whose careers depend upon math, science and technology, or who have non-traditional careers. Careers represented at this year's conference will include ... Anthropology ... Astrophysics ... Car Design ... Computer Animation ... Engineering ... Geology ... Law ... Meteorology ... Pharmacy ... Physics ... Optometry ... Veterinary Science ... and many more.

Students

  • Participate in two hands-on, interactive workshops led by women whose careers use math, science or technology.
  • Attend a career fair where you can talk to many other women showcasing their math, science, technology or nontraditional careers.
  • Each small group of students will be guided to their workshops by a university student who will stay with you throughout the day and answer questions you may have about being a college student.
  • A box lunch will be served between the second and third sessions of the day, and you will receive an EYH T-shirt at registration.

Adults

  • Attend three workshops on topics ranging from understanding adolescent girls to planning for college.
  • A light meal will be served in mid-morning.
  • All adult sessions will be held in the UMC.
  • Fathers are welcome!

General Information

  • From astronomers to zoologists, chemists to veterinarians, a variety of careers will be on display to demonstrate the importance of studying math and science.
  • Student participants must be currently enrolled in the sixth or seventh grade.
  • Students will be assigned to small groups and the groups will be chaperoned by university guides throughout the day.
  • Large groups (more than 8 students) must register by March 7, and individuals must register by March 21, 1998.
  • Registration is limited, so register early!
  • Some student scholarships are available.
  • Students will be assigned to two workshops by the registrar; we're sorry we cannot honor workshop requests. Opportunities to explore many different careers will be provided in the career fair.
  • Please designate a meeting place to meet students when the conference is completed. We suggest the south patio at the UMC's main entrance.
  • Students who have already attended an Expanding Your Horizons conference at UCB are strongly encouraged to attend a different program this year. Our 1998 EYH will be very similar to our 1997 conference.
